Our Core Beliefs

Who Our Educators Are

At H.G. Hill Middle School, we choose outstanding educators to assist us in our quest to provide a world-class education to the children and families we serve. The educators we recruit are expected to demonstrate the following characteristics:

Passion for Equality and Excellence

We hire educators who set high standards for themselves and their students. More importantly, we hire people who are committed to effectively captivating, inspiring and teaching our children at high levels. Standards’ based instruction and grading are implemented. Respecting and embracing diversity is essential.

Commitment to Collaboration

We like to say we are “Climbing the Hill” and believe these hills can be climbed by working with each other, our students’ families, our business communities and most importantly, the learners in our building. Collaborative planning is a priority at H.G. Hill.

Commitment to Reflective Practice

Each year poses new and unique challenges for us as a school. We service an extremely diverse range of learners, and we are always challenging ourselves to look at our own practices and adjust for the better! There is never a time in which we have “learned enough,” and we hire people who are comfortable in a highly dynamic and continually changing environment.

Commitment to Professionalism

We take customer satisfaction seriously as a school. Our customers include our staff, our students, our students’ families and our school community. We have sought people who understand how to work with all stakeholders.

Commitment to Student Leadership

We believe that every student has the ability to be a leader in their own capacity. It is our role to ensure every student has the opportunity to utilize their strengths in leadership in our building.

Understanding and Willingness to Learn How Trauma Can Impact Students, their Behavior and Learning at School

As a school, we utilize strategies that support students through a trauma sensitive lens, which supports Restorative Practices. We believe significant learning does not occur without sincere, strong relationships and seek people who demonstrate a commitment to building them. We place an enormous emphasis on building meaningful, respectful relationships between staff, families, students and the community.

Strong Core Character

Hill’s culture is one of going above and beyond. We step up when needed, support each other, and are involved in Hill’s events. Character traits of professional honesty, kindness, integrity, and trust is valued. We are solution-oriented and think outside of the box. Challenges must be overcome with adults having these traits, a positive attitude and the ability to rise above.
